Eighties electro-funk band Collage is suing Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, claiming the pair copied Collage's 1983 single "Young Girls" to create their 2014 smash "Uptown Funk," TMZ reports.
Collage's complaint, which was reviewed by Pitchfork, claims that Mars and Ronson's song copies "the distinct funky specifically noted and timed consistent guitar riffs" and also includes "virtuallyâ¦

But the experimental collective's latest idea may be their most daring ever: Fans who pre-order Negativland's new album, The Chopping Channel, via their website will received a two-gram bag of late band member Don Joyce's actual cremated remains. Joyce passed away in July of last year, but was still kicking while the band worked on The Chopping Channel. Though he left no specific instructions for his remains, the band wrote in a statement for Boing Boing that, âWe are pretty sure he would have wanted it this way.â âThis is not a hoax,â the statement read. âWe've decided to take the Chopping Channel concept to its logical conclusion by 'productizing' an actual band member. It is also a celebration of the degree to which no idea in art was ever off-limits to Don, and offers a literal piece of him, and of his audio art, for the listener to repurpose and reuse.â In response to some questions on Facebook, Negativland clarified that they are not selling Joyce's remains; they're including them as a free gift along with pre-ordered copies of the record. âIt's not a random thing that his ashes are part of the project,â said the band. âThey actually fit the concept perfectly. Once you hear it, you'll understand.â They're also bundling it with one of Joyce's own âhandmade audio tape loop 'carts' used in the creation of [the band's livemix radio show] Over The Edge and Negativland live performances between 1981 and 2015.â So it's not all so morbid. There could be more to come, however. Over the last two years, Negativland also lost Richard Lyons and Ian Allen. âBefore he died, Richard said to us, 'whatever you do with my ashes, just make sure it's different from what you are doing with Don's (he knew what the plan was), and make sure it's funny,'â wrote the band. Serving as Volume 9 in Negativland's long-running album series created from edits of the Over The Edge radio show, The Copping Channel is out on October 21st. For you chance at some of Joyce's ashes and tapes, pre-order the album here. In the trailer below, watch the actual packaging process for the cremains. ![]() Both of Frank Ocean's 2016 albums, Blonde and Endless, may be two of the year's most memorable, but they won't be receiving any accolades at the Grammys. As Billboard reports, and reps for the Grammys confirm, Ocean's two long-awaited LPs weren't submitted for consideration for the upcoming awards ceremony. The deadline to submit for eligibility was September 30th. Blonde (August 20th) and Endless (August 12th) were released well before then, so it's unclear whether Ocean's camp missed the cut-off date due to an error, or if they purposefully intended to skip out on the Grammys. (As the long wait between records proved, the R&B crooner does what he wants, when he wants, and sometimes without explanation.) His previous full-length, 2012's widely-acclaimed channel ORANGE, earned a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. This isn't the first time a high-profile artist/release has missed an opportunity for a trophy on the grounds of ineligibility. Previously, Drake's people failed to submit smash single âHotline Blingâ for the 2016 Grammys. The Ocean-less 59th annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 12th. ![]() The Megaphonic Thrift hail from Bergen, Norway, and create pulverizing noise rock with members from The Low Frequency in Stereo and Casiokids.
